Ukraine’s biggest threat: Losing Western support | Anatomy of Disinformation
The war in Ukraine is not only fought on the battlefield – it is fought in the information space across Europe. In this episode of Anatomy of Disinformation, we examine how Russian influence operations are evolving, targeting not just Ukraine but also public opinion in countries like Poland and Germany. As attention given to the war fades, narratives questioning support for Ukraine – and trust between allies are gaining ground. Together with Yulia Yershova, a Ukrainian refugee journalist for Slawa TV, we look at how disinformation directly impacts lives: From false narratives about refugees, to coordinated campaigns aimed at weakening morale and unity. We then turn to Germany with Maria Skóra, a research fellow at Berlin’s Institut für Europäische Politik, who explains how populism, polarization, and foreign influence are shaping the political landscape ahead of key elections, and how globally tested narratives are adapted locally. From fake news about the war to broader strategies of division, this episode reveals how disinformation operates across borders and why it matters for the future of Europe.
