Fires threaten Bordeaux’s famed wineries, spark emergency in Spain
Spain has declared a national emergency and France seeks help from the European Union to tackle a blaze on the Atlantic coast. Over 166,000 people have been evacuated.
The last time Spain declared the same level of emergency alert was during a massive nationwide power blackout in 2025.
Firefighters are battling multiple fires near Madrid, which also threatening Bordeaux — a French city flanked by tourist havens and world-renowned vineyards.
