Euphoria erupts in Budapest after Péter Magyar is sworn in | Wider View from Brussels

The European Union has often been held hostage by Victor Orbán’s vetoes, likely inspired by orders from the Kremlin, which have paralyzed the community on critical issues. On Europe Day, the new prime minister, Péter Magyar, was sworn in amid waving EU flags and the Ode to Joy, a scene not seen in Hungary for many years under the Fidesz party government. With many members of the previous regime fleeing Hungary and thousands of jubilant Hungarians filling the streets of Budapest, Magyar promises to write a new chapter for his country. Will it also be a new chapter for Europe? In this episode of Wider View host Grzegorz Nawrocki disscused this with Daniel Freund, German MEP from The Greens/EFA and Jan Strupczewski, Deputy Bureau Chief for France and Benelux from Reuters.

Chapters:
00:00 Introduction: Péter Magyar’s mandate for systemic change in Hungary
02:23 Hungary under Orbán: From illiberalism to violating Rule of Law
