White House dinner gunman charged with assassination attempt | 7NEWS
Cole Tomas Allen has been formally charged with attempting to assassinate US President Donald Trump at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, facing three offences including a potential life sentence. The 31-year-old allegedly travelled from California to Washington D.C. by train, booking a hotel room three weeks in advance and carrying a pump-action shotgun, semi-automatic handgun and three knives. The White House Press Secretary has blamed left-wing rhetoric for the attack, the third attempt on Trump’s life in two years, specifically criticising late-night TV host Jimmy Kimmel for a controversial skit aired two days before the incident.
