US-Saudi nuclear deal could increase proliferation risk: arms control expert | ABC NEWS

The United States has announced it has reached a civilian nuclear cooperation deal with Saudi Arabia which some experts say could lead to the development of nuclear weapons.

Senior Policy Director for the Center for Arms Control and Non-Proliferation John Erath explains that the Saudi government has indicated that it is unwilling to sign an ‘Additional Protocol’ with the International Atomic Energy Agency which is in place to put guardrails around a country’s nuclear program. He says that is likely to raise alarm bells during the approval process.
