Ukraine braces for another energy siege | Eastern Express
Ukraine is preparing for another winter under Russian attack after years of strikes devastated its power infrastructure.
Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal says more than 80% of the country’s generating capacity has been destroyed or damaged, leaving Ukraine with a major electricity deficit. Kyiv now warns that Russia may expand its destruction campaign to water and sewage infrastructure, potentially making prolonged blackouts far more dangerous. Ukraine is racing to secure additional air defense, repair damaged facilities and decentralize critical infrastructure before temperatures fall.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian strikes against Russian refineries are turning energy infrastructure on both sides into one of the central battlefields of the war.
