Thousands evacuated across Europe as wildfires spread rapidly
Wildfires in Europe are spreading rapidly, as firefighters work to control them during a record-breaking heatwave.
Around 1,000 people have been evacuated in Croatia after the blazes, driven by strong winds, tore through a tourist town overnight.
Authorities in northwestern Spain have told 855 people to leave their properties, with the flames threatening a historic monastery containing remains of some of Aragon’s earliest kings.
In Italy, firefighters worked through the night to contain a large blaze, burning since Thursday.

A major emergency response has been triggered in Germany by a wildfire which is affecting around 25 hectares of woodland and has led to 1,800 evacuations.
