Surfers defy warnings, hang ten off Long Beach

Micah Steezington, 20, Tanner Klein, 23, Alex Scichilone, 22 and Brian Moir, 22 left their homes at 7 a.m. for another day of nor’easter surfing in Long Beach.

Gov. Kathy Hochul warned New Yorkers to stay out of the water this weekend. But storm waves are what dreams are made of for surfers.

“The summer was awful,” Moir said with a pout.

The Long Beach boardwalk was all but empty on Sunday morning as surfers peppered the ocean.

One man emerging from the water spotted his friend.

“It was gnarly, dude!” he shouted.
