SOURCES with Svetlana Marshall
This week on SOURCES with Svetlana Marshall, we focus on Guyana’s education sector — a sector that is key to national development.
In 2025, the sector receivedG$175 billion — its largest budget ever. This has funded school construction, free textbooks, smart classrooms, and better pay and support for teachers.
But challenges remain. Learning gaps between coastal and hinterland areas persist. Special needs education is growing but there is need for improvement. And questions continue around exams, student performance, and how well the system is adapting to a changing economy.
Joining us, on this edition of SOURCES, to discuss both the progress and the pressing concerns is Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand.
