China’s display of military strength | Thailand’s political rivals scramble for power
A highly choreographed spectacle has unfolded in Beijing. One steeped in symbolism and intended to show China’s power and global reach. The military parade was to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.
20 leaders from South-East and Central Asia were in attendance, but two, Russia’s Vladimir Putin and North Korea’s Kim Jong-un, took a prominent role flanking the Chinese President.
