South Australian transport authorities have introduced strict safety protocols following a serious concrete slab accident on the North-South Motorway at Bolivar. Two 15-tonne concrete slabs slid off a truck and struck three parked cars after the driver, allegedly using his phone without a seatbelt, suddenly braked. The Torrens to Darlington project is now capped at two slabs per load with upgraded restraint requirements.
The premier rejects Welco’s disputed road upgrade excuse, blames the developer for leaving buyers stranded, and says a special commissioner will pursue all legal options unless the contracts are reinstated.
Police are searching for an arsonist after a massive fire gutted an Edwards Town crash repair workshop, causing over $1.5 million in damage. Firefighters battled for hours to save neighbouring businesses, while investigators are treating the blaze as suspicious after a car was stolen from the site just before the fire started.
