Russia’s suicide drones just got faster | Eastern Express
Russia’s Iranian-designed Shahed drones have evolved into faster, more sophisticated weapons now manufactured inside Russia. At the Alabuga industrial complex, Moscow is developing new Geran variants equipped with jet engines, upgraded navigation systems and increasingly specialized warheads.
Chinese components have played a significant role in that transformation, even as Russia tries to reduce its dependence on foreign suppliers. For Ukraine, the result is an increasingly difficult contest between rapidly evolving Russian drones and the systems designed to intercept them.
On Eastern Express, we examine how Moscow transformed the Shahed into an evolving weapons platform and why this development could make the coming winter particularly dangerous.
