Russian TV hides massive drone attacks on St. Petersburg | Break the Fake
Ukrainian drones reportedly struck key infrastructure across Russia’s Leningrad region, including oil facilities, an Ozon warehouse, a VK data center, and a major power substation.
Yet viewers of Russian state television could easily have missed the story altogether. While smoke rose above critical infrastructure near St. Petersburg, federal TV channels focused on riots in France, protests in Albania, and tensions at the Polish–Ukrainian border. One major channel reportedly devoted just 30 seconds to the attack. The Kremlin’s media strategy is beautifully simple: tell Russians how chaotic the West is, and they might not notice the chaos unfolding in their own backyard.
Oil depots burn, infrastructure comes under attack, and digital services face disruption. But fear not, dear viewers, there are riots in Paris to keep you distracted. Nothing says “superpower” quite like pretending the damage doesn’t exist.
Join Jonasz Rewiński in a new episode of Break The Fake to find out how Russian state television turns a major drone attack into a footnote, and why the Kremlin appears far more comfortable reporting on problems abroad than explaining the ones at home.
