Trump says Ukraine gave him nothing but expensive diesel | Midday Report
Our stories today:
– WITKOFF MEETS PUTIN, BUT A PEACE DEAL REMAINS OUT OF REACH
More deadly drone strikes in Kyiv, and diplomacy in St. Petersburg. As Ukrainians dug through the rubble overnight, U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff met with Vladimir Putin, and secured the release of jailed American school teacher Stephen Hubbard. But a peace deal still seems far out of reach, and Donald Trump is once again turning up the pressure, on the victim but not the aggressor.
– THE HISTORIC DISPUTE BETWEEN KYIV AND WARSAW CONTINUES
Another flareup in historical grievances is sinking bilateral relations between Poland and Ukraine. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski have slammed a controversial decision by the Lviv regional council to designate 2027 as the “Year of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army.”
– POLAND’S PARLIAMENT APPROVES TWO ABORTION REFORM BILLS
Polish MPs have voted to approve two bills on abortion on Tuesday. One aims to partially decriminalize performing an abortion with a woman’s consent as well as assistance in obtaining an abortion; and another that allows for abortion in cases of severe fetal abnormalities.
