Oscar Piastri told to let teammate Lando Norris through by race engineer

Here is the smoking gun Oscar Piastri’s legion of fans have been waiting for after months of speculation about favouritism inside the McLaren garage.

The 24-year-old was left far from happy but didn’t put up a fight when his race engineer told him to let teammate Lando Norris through in an explosive moment during the Italian Grand Prix.

Max Verstappen was in a class of his own as he roared to victory at the iconic Monza circuit, but the F1 world’s attention has been focused squarely on the drama that unfolded behind him in the McLaren garage.

With just eight laps to go Piastri, who was in third, pitted first, followed by Norris the lap after, who was in second.

However, Piastri overtook his championship rival after the Brit suffered a slow pit stop due to a faulty wheel gun.

Piastri, meanwhile, benefited from the quickest pit stop of the entire race — 1.91 seconds —but that was erased moments later when Piastri was told to allow his championship rival to overtake him.

It is safe to say the Aussie wasn’t happy.

“This is a bit like Hungary last year, where we pitted in this order for team reasons. Please let Lando pass, and you are free to race,” the McLaren radio said.
