NSW hospitals face billion-dollar nurse staffing overhaul | 7NEWS
NSW public hospitals will implement new minimum staffing levels requiring one nurse for every four patients across all medical, surgical and specialty wards in 228 hospitals. The policy will cost more than a billion dollars and require an additional 2,500 full-time nurses, coming as the state’s economic growth forecasts have fallen from 2.5 per cent to 1 per cent. The Iran war and three consecutive interest rate rises are impacting the state budget, with stamp duty collections expected to be down by five billion dollars over the forward estimates.
