Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi tipped for top Hawks post
Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia has submitted a formal Cabinet memorandum seeking concurrence to appoint KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi as the National Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, known as the Hawks.
The memorandum will be tabled for discussion and approval during an upcoming Cabinet sitting.
Lieutenant-General Siphesihle Nkosi has been serving as the Acting National Head of the Hawks since the retirement of Lieutenant-General Godfrey Lebeya in May last year.
In July 2025, Mkhwanazi held a landmark media briefing exposing deep-seated criminal and political infiltration within South Africa’s security and justice systems.
To talk more about this we are joined by Independent Security Analyst Azania Mnisi.
