Madlanga Commission | Analysis of charges faced by Suliman Carrim by Dr Shadi Maganoe

The Madlanga Commission will lay criminal charges against businessman, Suliman Carrim, for his failure to appear before the commission. This comes after Carrim’s refusal to undergo an independent medical assessment.

The commission had ruled that he must be evaluated by a truly independent medical specialist, nominated by the relevant professional association, rather than a doctor associated with him. The aim is to ensure an unbiased assessment of his fitness to testify.

Carrim’s return to the Madlanga Commission has been postponed five times since April.

Today marks exactly four months since Carrim allegedly suffered a heart attack and collapsed at a gym.

Commission Chairperson, retired Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga, has maintained that compliance with the commission’s directives is not optional.

We have roped in Dr Shadi Maganoe, Senior Lecture at Wits school of Law.
