Local Municipalities | Growing delays in approval of building plans
Persistent municipal building plan approval delays in South Africa are severely hindering homeowners and property developers from legally constructing, renovating, or extending their properties, according to the South African Council for the Architectural Profession (SACAP).
Under the National Building Regulations and Standards Act, any individual wishing to erect, extend, or renovate a building must obtain planning approval from their local authority.
Proceeding with construction without this approval is illegal and can attract criminal sanctions.
