Kelsey Cook bets on herself with Netflix ‘Happy Hour’ that turns grief into joy
With “Happy Hour,” her self-financed Netflix debut, comedian Kelsey Cook moves from comedy clubs to a historic Twin Cities theater, betting on herself and reclaiming creative and business control.
Cook balances a noncompetitive relationship and podcast with fellow comic fiancé Chad Daniels and a world-champion foosball pedigree, turning her intensely personal, idiosyncratic life into sharp, self-aware stand-up.
Onstage, she folds in her mother’s frontotemporal dementia and her own depression, using humor to ease anticipatory grief and leave audiences feeling unexpectedly joyful and seen.
