Hochul Signs Hotel Trafficking Law Following Newsday Investigation
New York hotels and motels could face fines of up to $1,000 for failing to display required human trafficking hotline and resource information in guest rooms.
Gov. Kathy Hochul signed the legislation Tuesday, establishing a $500 fine for a first offense and $1,000 for subsequent violations if businesses fail to comply within 30 days of being notified.
The law follows a Newsday investigation that identified nearly 60 Long Island motels where at least one incident involving sex trafficking, prostitution or sex with a minor had occurred.
The legislation aims to help trafficking victims access information about available support and resources.
