In what officials are calling the nation’s largest narco-interdiction in a decade, Colombian authorities intercepted over 7.6 metric tons of cocaine at the Caribbean port of Cartagena. The massive shipment—cleverly disguised inside packages of powdered sugar and panela—was bound for the Netherlands before police and port inspectors uncovered the illicit cargo. President Abelardo de la Espriella, who personally oversaw the operation, declared the seizure a “historic blow to narco-terrorism,” revealing his administration has already confiscated 132 metric tons of cocaine during his first 75 days in office. The hardline leader reaffirmed his commitment to dismantling armed cartels and strengthening regional anti-narcotics coalitions.
