He lost his NZ public service job and his house deposit | The Pacific | ABC NEWS
Public service job cuts, crime and prison numbers, and the future of Māori programs have been some of the biggest flashpoints of New Zealand’s election.
The Pacific travelled to the capital Wellington to speak with Haora Hema who lost his job in New Zealand’s public service last November. He spent eight months out of work, and he and his partner had to spend the house deposit they’d been saving to get by. He’s one of thousands affected by the government’s public service cuts, which it says are needed to balance the books.
MP Paul Goldsmith says the plan is working, while opposition MP Tamatha Paul says New Zealanders deserve better. New Zealand votes on November 7.
