HBCU Classic in Boston goes far beyond the line of scrimmage


It’s been five decades since Boston last hosted a football game between two Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
On Saturday at Harvard Stadium, Johnson C. Smith University and Morehouse College will change that. Local leaders hope visibility and accessibility are at the heart of Saturday’s Essence HBCU Classic.
“I think a lot of the times people forget Boston has a rich history,” said Tome Barros, the Boston Celtics’ community engagement manager. “To be the messengers of the importance of a Historically Black College, Boston’s a perfect place.”
