Government pledges $12b for AUKUS base in WA amid Trump pressure | ABC NEWS

The Australian government has pledged to spend $12 billion on an AUKUS submarine and shipbuilding facility in Western Australia.
The proposed precinct south of Perth in Western Australia is slated to become a docking station for nuclear-powered submarines and have capacity to build surface vessels.
Defence Minister Richard Marles says US naval ships are expected to have access to the facility because it is part of the pact’s collaboration.
The announcement comes after months of pressure from the Trump administration to lift Australian defence spending to 3.5 per cent of GDP and a phone call between Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and the US leader.
