Gauteng | Police urge residents to help fight tavern shootings


Gauteng Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni has called on the community of Saulsville to work hand in hand with the police in fighting the scourge of tavern mass shootings, this came out during their community engagement imbizo. Following the brutal murder of eleven people were shot and killed in at local tavern at the Saulsville township in Atteridgeville, west of Pretoria in December last year. It’s believed three unknown gunmen began firing randomly a group of people who were drinking at an unlicensed liquor operating within the hostel. Mthombeni says operations are underway to clamp down taverns operating without liquor licenses.
