Funeral honors US Army Staff Sgt. Angel Rampersad; soldier among 18 troops who’ve died in Iran war
Community and family members mourned U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Angel Rampersad as they were laid to rest with military honors at Long Island National Cemetery on Friday, July 31.
A funeral procession of police, firefighters and other vehicles arrived at the cemetery before military pallbearers removed Rampersad’s flag-draped casket from a hearse and carried it to the burial site.
Rampersad, 28, was one of three U.S. service members killed when an Iranian missile struck sleeping barracks at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan on July 17. At least 18 U.S. service members have died in the Iran war, according to Pentagon officials.
