Election interference is not about this or that guy winning | Ivana Stradner
In a televised address to the nation on Thursday, U.S. President Donald Trump accused China of interfering in American elections and said the U.S. election systems faced shocking vulnerabilities. But on whose behalf might America’s enemies try to interfere in the elections?
“Both Russia and China have been interfering in the U.S. elections much earlier than 2020. And I would say even much earlier than 2016. The ultimate goal was not to select one president or other, but to polarize the society,” Ivana Stradner, Research Fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, told TVP World.
“Make no mistake: Russia and China, but also Iran and North Korea, are on it already, and they are going to continue their favorite tactics, which is to use influence operations to polarize over any possible issues in the United States,” she added.
Join TVP World’s Maciej Mikos and his guest as they explore China’s expanding influence in preparation to exploit future crises, how Europe has failed to learn a lesson when Russia was doing the same, and how democracies can be weakened without firing a single shot.
