Drone strike kills more than 150 at market in disputed Abyei region
The United Nations has condemned a drone strike on the Amiet market in Abyei, which has killed more than 150 people.
Sudan’s army has been accused by officials in South Sudan of launching a series of drone strikes in recent days, resulting in more than 300 deaths, including dozens headed to a funeral.
The disputed oil-rich border region of Abyei — located between South Sudan and Sudan — is jointly administered and surrounded by areas controlled by Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces.
South Sudan’s foreign ministry says it “condemns in the strongest terms possible” the attack on the market and has called on Sudan to refrain from actions that endanger civilian lives.
