Close to RM140mil collected in Migrant Repatriation Programme 2.0
Nearly RM140mil in compounds and fees has been collected under the Migrant Repatriation Programme 2.0 after more than 250,000 illegal foreigners voluntarily signed up to return to their home countries, says Immigration director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban.
Zakaria said the reduced compound encouraged participants to surrender voluntarily and return home through legal channels instead of using illegal routes.
Speaking after the 104th Immigration Day celebration on Tuesday (July 21), he said the programme also helped ease overcrowding at immigration depots caused by relying solely on enforcement.
