Bill Cassidy explains support for Todd Blanche attorney general nomination in Senate floor speech
Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche’s bid to fill that role permanently appeared poised for success after Republican Sen. Bill Cassidy of Louisiana announced Aug. 7 that he would vote in Blanche’s favor.
Cassidy, who is slated to step away from the Senate in January after losing his Republican primary this year to a candidate backed by President Donald Trump, said from the Senate floor that Blanche isn’t a perfect choice to run the Justice Department.
“But the choice is not between perfection and Mr. Blanche. It is between Mr. Blanche and another acting attorney general who may not run the department effectively under President Trump, and who, indeed, may not be as good as Mr. Blanche,” Cassidy said.
