The Federal Government announces $14 billion in additional defence spending over four years, totalling $53 billion across the next decade. Defence Minister Richard Marles describes it as the biggest peacetime increase in defence spending in Australia’s history, citing growing regional threats and military modernisation. The funding will support naval assets including new frigates and nuclear-powered submarines, as well as uncrewed systems like the Ghost Bat and Ghost Shark drones.
