Panic erupted mid-air after a passenger on Batik Air Flight OD231 allegedly tried to smash the emergency exit window during a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Kochi, India. Jamsheer Athanikkal, 36, was reportedly restrained by cabin crew and fellow passengers after allegedly kicking and damaging the emergency hatch on the Boeing 737 while the aircraft was in flight.
The incident happened as other passengers slept in the cabin. Authorities said a loud hissing sound was heard before crew and travellers rushed to stop him. Police in Kerala later confirmed he was taken into custody after the plane landed safely at Cochin International Airport. He now faces allegations including criminal intimidation, endangering aircraft safety and putting passengers at risk. Investigators are still working to determine what triggered the incident.
