Xi hosts Trump at state banquet in Beijing

Chinese President Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan hosted US President Donald Trump at a state dinner on May 14, 2026, following bilateral talks earlier in the day. Xi described Trump’s visit as “historic”. “Realising the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and making America great again can coexist, complement each other and benefit the world,” said the Chinese president. Trump invited Xi and first lady Peng Liyuan to visit the White House on September 24, 2026. The two leaders will meet again on Friday for a working lunch and tea.
