World ushers in New Year with dazzling fireworks display

Fireworks lit up the night sky as millions of people ushered in 2026 by gathering at key landmarks around the world. Australia, which was among the first to ring in the new year, observed a minute of silence to honour victims of the December Bondi beach attack. Hong Kong, meanwhile, cancelled its annual fireworks out of respect for victims of the November Tai Po fire and held a light show countdown instead.
