Woman Charged in Baby’s Death 30 Years Later

Nearly 30 years after a newborn baby boy was found dead inside a toilet at a Commack movie theater, a woman has been charged with his murder.

Michelle Chronick Tyson, 59, was arrested in Virginia after Suffolk County investigators used advances in DNA technology to identify her as the baby’s biological mother.

Prosecutors allege Tyson gave birth inside the theater’s bathroom in November 1996, covered the baby with toilet paper and left without telling anyone.

The case remained unsolved for decades before investigators reopened it in 2024.

Tyson has pleaded not guilty to two counts of second-degree murder and faces 25 years to life in prison if convicted.
