Why Trump is cutting military drills with US ally South Korea | DW News

US President Donald Trump has ordered the Pentagon to reduce joint military exercises with South Korea, citing their cost, his “very good relationship” with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and referencing Seoul’s lack of involvement in Iran. The decision came just before the annual Ulchi Freedom Shield drills got underway.

DW’s Biresh Banerjee speaks to Joon Ha Park of the Korea Risk Group about what this means for South Korea’s security, US deterrence against North Korea and the future of the US-South Korea alliance.
