‘We have of course always been multicultural’: Anthony Albanese
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has backed multiculturalism in an address to the Federation of Ethnic Communities’ Councils of Australia’s national conference, saying anyone who thinks Australia was ever a monoculture “should really get themselves down to the nearest Specsavers”.
Albanese pointed to the diversity of the government’s ministers and MPs, saying the Australian parliament now better reflects the country’s multicultural population.
“When I look at our government, frontbench and our caucus, it looks like Australia, and that wasn’t always the case.”
Responding to Albanese’s Specsavers comment, One Nation MP David Farley said: “Well, I’m not quite sure of his prescription.”
