WATCH | City Power: Transformer not to blame in Doornfontein explosion
City Power has ruled out a transformer failure as the cause of a powerful explosion in New Doornfontein, Johannesburg. Executive Mayor Dada Morero visited the site as part of the City’s Inner City safety and compliance drive, saying the City will not compromise on protecting infrastructure and essential services.
City Power COO Charles Tlouane explained that the ground-mounted transformer was found intact, with no oil spillage or signs of failure, and said evidence on site suggests another factor may have amplified the blast. Investigations are ongoing as teams work to restore power to affected areas.
