War on Iran | Reports of poor conditions aboard USS Abraham Lincoln: Sherwin Bryce-Pease reports
The human cost of the war with Iran is becoming increasingly visible aboard one of America’s most important warships. The USS Abraham Lincoln, carrying around 5,000 sailors and Marines, has now been deployed for more than eight months — more than 260 days at sea — supporting the US military campaign against Iran.
Two military-focused publications, Navy Times and Stars and Stripes, reported suicide attempts and declining morale on the 5,000-person ship, which has been deployed at sea since November 2025. Families of crew members say the prolonged deployment has taken a serious toll, with reports of exhaustion, deteriorating mental health, shortages of food and basic supplies, and problems with sanitation and plumbing, raising concern among member of the U.S. Congress.
