The first wave of people who lived in Wang Cheong House, the most severely damaged tower of Hong Kong’s fire-ravaged Wang Fuk Court, returned to collect their belongings on April 23, 2026. Mr Chan, who lived on the second floor of Wang Cheong House, said his home was almost completely gutted by the blaze. “I told myself not to hold out much hope,” he said. “Because if you have hope, you will be very disappointed when you step in.”
