Vietnam veterans mark 60 years since Long Tan | 7NEWS
Vietnam veterans gathered at the Shrine of Remembrance in Melbourne to mark the 60th anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan, where approximately 100 Australians were ambushed by 2,500 Viet Cong forces. During the battle, Australian troops repelled multiple onslaughts before the Viet Cong retreated, with 18 Australians killed. Vietnam veterans are now using their experiences, including the difficult reception they received upon returning home, to support modern veterans struggling after deployments in Afghanistan, Iraq and East Timor.
