US hails Malaysia’s leadership in regional defence

US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth dismissed claims that the United States is withdrawing from the Asia-Pacific region, reaffirming Washington’s commitment to its allies at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore.

He said the U.S. is actively working with regional partners to strengthen collective security, praised Indo-Pacific allies for increasing defence spending, and highlighted Malaysia’s role in deploying an Asean observer mission to the Thailand–Cambodia border as a positive example of regional cooperation.
