The U.S. Congress held a tense and highly charged hearing as the Trump administration formally designated Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC) over alleged systematic, targeted attacks on Christian communities. In a detailed testimony, Ambassador Pratt described a wave of brutal massacres across Benue and Plateau states—church burnings, coordinated Christmas-week assaults, villages razed, and hundreds of civilians, including women and children, killed in acts of overt religious violence. He warned that Nigeria’s government has failed to intervene, failed to protect Christian communities, and failed to hold perpetrators accountable, despite alarming intelligence on extremist groups including ISIS-West Africa, Boko Haram, IS Sahel, Ansaru, and multiple armed militias expanding operations across the Middle Belt and northern Nigeria. But the hearing took a sharp turn when Congresswoman Sara Jacobs issued a rare and direct rebuke of the U.S. President.
