UN calls for coordinated approach in addressing migration
The United Nations Resident Coordinator in South Africa, Nelson Muffuh, says migration is a global challenge, not one unique to South Africa.
He says many African countries continue to lose young people who risk — and often lose — their lives crossing the Mediterranean in search of better opportunities in Europe.
Muffuh adds that in the Americas, thousands of migrants from Latin America continue to make the dangerous journey north despite tougher US immigration enforcement aimed at curbing irregular migration.
