Two cities, two ways to celebrate #football
Two football celebrations. Two very different images of what supporting a club can look like.
After PSG’s Champions League victory over Arsenal, celebrations across France descended into unrest. Authorities reported 780 arrests, 57 injured police officers and 219 injured fans. Fires were set in the streets, businesses were damaged, and violent clashes broke out in several cities. One young man died in a motorcycle crash during the night, while another was seriously injured in a stabbing incident in Paris.
Just days earlier, on May 25, tens of thousands of Wisła Krakow supporters gathered peacefully in Kraków’s Main Square to celebrate the club’s return to Poland’s top division, the Ekstraklasa, after four years away. Fans welcomed the team from an open-top bus, sang club songs, and marked both the promotion and Wisła’s 120th anniversary.
Football is built on passion, emotion, and community. But while violence, injuries and vandalism overshadowed one celebration, the other showed how tens of thousands of supporters can celebrate a historic achievement without turning against the city they call home.
