Trump says Ukraine peace deal could be near during gaggle before South Carolina rally
President Donald Trump spoke with reporters Wednesday before departing for South Carolina for a midterm campaign rally. Trump discussed a White House roundtable held earlier in the day on cybercrime, which included FBI Director Kash Patel, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, Attorney General Todd Blanche and White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy Stephen Miller.
Trump also briefly addressed the release of U.S. citizen Stephen Hubbard, who had been held behind bars for more than four years.
On the war in Ukraine, Trump said the U.S. is negotiating with Russia and suggested a potential agreement could be within reach.
“We’re negotiating with Russia right now on Ukraine. We are maybe close to a deal for the first time in a long time,” Trump said.
