US President Donald Trump has nominated himself as the headline act for a concert to mark America’s 250th birthday, after five out of nine artists withdrew from the event over concerns it may be more about the US president than the nation’s Independence Day.
The US leader suggested replacing the event with a Make America Great Again (MAGA) rally and claimed he could attract a larger crowd than Elvis Presley in his prime.
Other artists have reaffirmed their commitment to the July 4 concert, with rapper Vanilla Ice saying he would perform to celebrate his country and the pursuit of happiness even if Joe Biden or Vladimir Putin was involved.
