Trump extends Iran ceasefire as debate intensifies over its terms

President Donald Trump extended the ceasefire with Iran, but doubts remain over its stability and terms.

U.S. Central Command said Tuesday that 28 ships have now been directed by U.S. forces to “turn around or return to port” during the blockade of Iranian ports.

The blockade went into effect on April 13. It is primarily enforced by U.S. naval and air power in the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said ‌the blockade of Iranian ports is an “act of war” and a violation of the ceasefire.

LiveNOW’s Austin Westfall spoke with national security analyst Hal Kempfer about the U.S. blockade in the Strait of Hormuz, and if it violates the terms of a ceasefire.

The original 2-week ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran was reached on April 7, and went into effect the following day.
