Thousands march in opposing rallies across the country
Thousands of people have taken part in opposing protests across Australia’s state capitals and regional centres, with police deployed in multiple locations to prevent clashes.
Some marched in solidarity with Melbourne’s Camp Sovereignty — a burial site and gathering place in Melbourne’s CBD — following a violent attack by neo-Nazis in late August. Others marched under the Australia Unites banner, calling for immigration reform and protesting “government corruption”.
